FiveOaks.jpgFive Oaks Ranch - Residence of Daniel Bidwell 1877 (MLSC) Five Oaks was the name of the ranch owned by Daniel Bidwell, half-brother of John Bidwell. Daniel Bidwell built a very large Victorian home on the site next to Lindo Channel (known as "Sandy Gulch" at the time). Somewhere along the line that house burned, and the property was bought by Roy Miller of the family behind Miller's Market. The house was damaged beyond repair by the fire, was torn down and replaced in the 1950s with the house that we all know today, Miller Mansion. Still visible at each gate is a family crest with the Latin motto "Ora et Labora" (Prayer and Work).

The property has also been referred to as Reed Ranch, and Daniel Bidwell's house that occupied the land has been called Reed Mansion.
