Petra Mediterranean Cuisine is a downtown restaurant that specializes in Mediterranean cuisine with gyros, falafel, shwarma, kebabs, dolmas, and various salads (such as tabouli). The restaurant also has various combination plates with standard sides such as yellow rice. They also serve babaganouj, hummus (8 or 16oz sizes), tahini, and thick wedge cut fries. Prices range from $4.99 (pita sandwiches such as falafel) to $8.99. For drinks they have standard coke products but also sell a yogurt drink. The falafel can be vegetarian without the sauce (presumably tzatziki). Shwarma, however, is shwarma because it has meat rather than falafel. Be sure to ask for their hot sauce if you like heat in your meal. You can buy a single serving pastry of the day as a desert.

Petra is located where Pommes Frites used to be. The interior has been redone although floorspace for dining is at a premium with just four tables. Next door is Arabian Nights, a hookah bar, and is owned by the same people.

2008-12-29 11:21:34   This is the bomb of Chico, finally we have something that rock , the food is beyond tasty and when you talk about service, the best of the best superior service, the owners are great, good luck guys. —167.10.240.1

2009-01-03 14:54:32   I very much liked their falafel sandwich. The falafel were extremely moist but nicely fried and was rich on flavor. There was only a thin amount of sauce on it (tzatziki probably) and a minor amounts of vegetables. Which, to me, is good. Because the reason behind a falafel sandwich is... the falafel! The pita was pressed closed so it did not fall apart on me (Sultan's Bistro needs to consider this method of serving). Their hot sauce was very good with the falafel. I also ordered the fries but I didn't really care for them. I don't like thick cut fries as they're always very dry. Anyway, I've only had falafel at two other places in Chico and this is by far the best yet. —RyanMikulovsky

2009-03-25 02:24:24   The falafels are ok if you like them being handled by the cashier who doesn't wash her hands between taking money and picking them up to put them into the carton. The service is terrible. It took about 35 minutes to get a side of falafels. —75.93.93.146

2009-04-02 02:52:29   Chicken Plate is the BEST, and Labna. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A+++. The service is top notch. You will enjoy the stay, and will want to come back again and again. Best Mediterranean so far in Chico. —24.23.19.9

2009-06-07 17:30:31   the food is so good fresh and authentic...... —75.93.91.190

2009-10-14 23:15:29   Being the only ones in the restaurant, the service was good. The food was slow to cook. There were large portions and the food looked authentic and just made. Prices were a little high for an appetizer sampler and one entress. Left feeling full and satisfied with my choice. —76.231.250.144
